Talking about your own art is like talking about a dream. You’re lucky if you’re lucid enough to hold onto a plot or recognize any solid concept as they shift and render. It’s like a fugue state where you come out of it wondering if you’ve managed to make any sense at all.
My early relationship with art was very personal, I would draw to anchor myself to imagined worlds. I collected many through books and film, and those inspired my own imaginings. In my early teens, I discovered some graphic novels at a local library and later a close grade school friend introduced me to cult & horror genres both on and off screen. These mediums continue to be major inspirations to me today and if we spend any amount of time together be warned they are my among favourite topics of discussion.
I first posted some pen & ink on Instagram in 2016 and barely a year later (under the gentle guidance of Cate Webb) I had begun learning to hand-poke tattoos. Most of what I was making at the time were these simple little angst ridden cartoons, and was honestly caught off guard by the by flowing positive response. Then in 2020, I took my time off work to learn to weld a tattoo machine and was officially invited to join Black Cat full time by the end of that year. I’ve just passed three years as a resident artist and continue to learn so much from my incredible tattoo family.
an eternal thank you to Black Cat Tattoo and my friends for their encouragement ♡
